Dr. Vijay Agarwal

Dr. Vijay K. Agarwal, born 1949, obtained M.Sc (1969), and Ph.D. (1977) from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India in Theoretical Particle Physics. Since then he worked in various positions in ISRO for more than 30 years. His basic field of work has been Radiative Transfer through the atmosphere and retrieval of geo-physical parameters from satellite observations, reconstruction and analysis of climate records for assessing climate change, data assimilation in ocean and climate numerical models to analyse future climate scenario. He has been honoured with J. Dasgupta award (1992) of Indian Meteorological Society for his contributions in remote sensing of clouds, and by International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE) in 2006 for his contributions to marine remote sensing. He retired as Chief Scientist (2009) from ISRO. He has over 60 peer reviewed research publications and more than 150 conference talks to his credit.
